C/2023 A3 from Brooklyn

I’m still working to see how much I can draw out of the data for this one, but like most images taken from Brooklyn, it’s difficult to get through the effects of ligh pollution. The pictures were take back on Oct 16, 2024, but I’m just now getting around to doing anything with them.

What did it look like after just aligning and integrating a couple hundred frames? Not very good. Shooting with the comet hovering over Staten Island with slight amount of haze makes for a difficult target.

I’m going to give another try to getting a good alignment on the comet itself and extract that from the image. You can see in this zoomed in view that the comet’s motion over the set of frames blurs out the comet itself.
