Tips and Tricks

Okay, tips and tricks sounds like I’m a wise old hand at this which is not what I’m trying to say here. However, I like to think I’ve learned a few things and this section is, in part at least, about some things that I have learned, more like an extended diary of learning experiences, organized topically. When I first started this “hobby” (aka obsession), much of this was hard-won knowledge, some by personal experience (which usually means “past mistakes”) and some handed down by folks more experienced but which had to be internalized via my own practice. At this point, much of it seems like common knowledge and, in fact, you can find much of it in books such as those by Robert Reeves.

There’s also the “I don’t want to forget this because it was painful to learn the first time” factor.

Resources

See my Astronomy Books page for a few books that I have and have read.1 The list is not exhaustive, and the comments barely count as real book reviews, but hopefully that will give you some sense of what is available.

Don Westergren’s site has some (dated but) excellent information on film suitability for astronomical photography.

1 Heh, heh. The list of books I have and have not read is rather larger than I care to admit.
