C/2023 A3 Processing

This took a while to work through. There are a lot of tips on processing comet images and PixInsight makes it easy for the most part, but I found the combination of untracked DSLR images from Brooklyn skies a bit too challenging to be able to separate out the comet from the background and get a clean comet-aligned image. So, I settled for star aligned only.

C/2023 A3 Taken from Brooklyn, NY

The original images were taken with a modified Canon 750D/T6i (modified for deep-sky, not relevant here except for the color balance adjustments necessary in processing). I took over around 400 2-second images, untracked on on a tripod using a Samyang 135mm f/2 lens. The above was star-aligned, so the comet head/coma can be seen to trail.

I used PixInsight for processing, doing the initial alignment and stacking with WBPP, no calibration frames.
